 First priority shall go to students who are identified by the program as homeless youth, as defined by the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C.Sec. 11434a), students who are identified by the program as being in foster care, students who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals, and 6th grade individuals designated as unduplicated pupils.  Second priority goes to students who can attend daily for the duration of the program time, and all subsequent students will be prioritized based on the time they will be in the program.

 

Program Hours for 2023-2024

Before School (AM): 6:30-8:00 AM (M, T, Th, F) and 6:30-school start (W)
After School (PM): 2:45-6:00 PM (M-F) and from school dismissal until 6pm on all Early Release Minimum Days. 

Our mission at MVMS ASES is to provide a safe environment for students to reach their potential through academic support, recreational and enrichment activities, and developing positive relationships with others. 
ASES activities are planned and led by dedicated and caring staff and adjustments are made based on student feedback and suggestions.  A few activities from MVMS ASES in the past include:
 
Oculus and Switch Games Dungeons and Dragons
Anime Disney
Jewelry Making Painting/Art Appreciation
Robotics Karaoke
Live Action Board Games  Sports

            
MVMS ASES students have participated in seasonal sports with students from other area ASES programs in Cross Country, Flag Football, Basketball, Volleyball, and Soccer.

MVMS ASES activities are organized on a six-week rotation and are posted on an activities calendar. Students select activities from a daily schedule based on interest in sports, recreation, technology, arts and crafts, food and nutrition, and more. We are always open to student ideas and suggestions as well. 

Students in both morning and afternoon programs are provided with a daily snack. 

ASES Programs include: 
1. An educational and literacy element provides homework assistance and academic support to help students meet state standards in reading/language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. A broad range of activities are based on students’ needs and interests.

2. An education enrichment element offers a variety of additional programs and activities that reinforce and compliment the school’s academic program. This includes positive youth development strategies and prevention activities that may utilize visual and performing arts, community service-learning, recreation and physical activity, health/nutritional promotion, career awareness and work preparation activities based on student needs and interests.
